Bridge

The British Club Bridge section saw an enormous change to its life in 2006, when, after years of playing friendly (non-competitive) bridge on a Tuesday evening and seeing numbers dwindle to two tables or less, the Section re-invented itself with weekly Duplicate Bridge Tournament, nicknamed by Outpost as “Unfriendly Bridge”!

Duplicate Bridge is played on preset sets of cards with teams playing either North-South or East-West and moving up or down tables each set. No talking is permitted during game play (except when bidding or abusing partner), cheating is definitely forbidden and we try our utmost to provide non-lethal ‘Hostile Bridge’. As with all games of Bridge, one person each game is ‘The Dummy’ who is free to go and get more drinks!

The organisers welcomed 72 guest players to the opening tournament on Sunday 1st October 2006 and the Section has never looked back. The opening tournament was supported both in numbers and in practical help by the Contract Bridge League of Thailand, and supported in person by their President, Admiral Prasert Boonsong MNLA, who was from 2000-2002 Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy. A very successful start to the section’s new life, which now sees itself listed as a regular weekly event of the Contract Bridge League.

Each Sunday British Club Bridge players, and invited guests, meet in the Silom Room for three hours plus of highly competitive Contract Bridge.

Each week we have around five to eight tables (up to 32 people) with half staying on to join everyone for enjoyment of the Club’s cuisine in the evening.

The British Club Open Pairs Tournament will now beheld EVERY SUNDAY AFTERNOON from 2pm with a fee of 200 Baht per person.
